Architecture & Design
Feng shui creates wellbeing in a place by managing the flow of chi or life energy. With green architectural design of living, recreation, work spaces, it can create delightful prosperous homes, offices or buildings! At University of the Philippines’ Architectural Students Association, I shared touchstones for green feng shui:
“Feng shui isn’t superstition. A bioenergy science. Beware of superstitions applied that alters beautiful living spaces. Say, putting an Anito (rice god statue) outshining design amenities in a Zen minimalist home like a sore thumb! Or giant Maranao Drums!
“Mega Buddha for mega luck!
Feng shui should thematically unite with interior or exterior design. Else, what is good feng shui becomes “barriotic” or “baduy” except for the superstitious owner thereby creating frenemies (friends turning out to be enemies who gossip about them). IF owner insists, remember customer delight is the objective, so make them happy by putting the Anito in its tasteful place with the advise of a feng shui expert if need be. Customer is king or queen remains the golden rule: who holds the gold rules. Afterall, it is their dream place to enjoy to last a lifetime, a mission held sacred in feng shui.

Professional execution of green feng shui fusion is recommended without prejudice to good sense of taste, balance and delightful eyecandy optical harmony. It should make any person’s heart sing especially the occupants. Work with nature, not against it. Good feng shui is unobtrusive in design and execution – what is essential is invisible to the eye!

Green Feng Shui Directions and Color Tips |
North – Put big picture windows since no sunlight exposure ever. Never a North door unless it is your feng shui direction, it dooms careers and finances. Color blue/black.
South –hottest, best for solar heaters atop roof. No windows. Red.
East – junk superstition that morning sun door is lucky. In feng shui some are extremely unlucky in the east. Green.
West – best for solid walls, never windows. Afternoon sun causes health problems. Never open in this direction for exposed roadside retail stores as hot afternoon sun drives customers away. Plant tall Pole bamboos! White, metallic colors.
Center – never open unroofed skywell, trees or water as this affects the heart of owner in feng shui, or cardiac, respiratory diseases. Green method of covered airwells at the center for proper ventilation is ideal. Earth colors.
Facing water at west, cooling sight of beach or lake or bay is good - put a
picture window complementing sunset view.
Lastly, do green feng shui with love in heart and mind, put a human face to whom you are designing the place for...
”
A house is built with walls and beams but a home is built with love and dreams! Do feng shui out of love, not greed and you will live happily ever after in your dream home or office.”
BUT, be professionally guided accordingly. Beware of DIY-do it yourself feng shui for as MMDA sign says in Filipino- it’s NAKAKAMATAY! (it can kill if wrong).
A little knowledge is dangerous! Like Michael Jackson, don’t ever self medicate in feng shui .

Just remember, what is green feng shui without your heartfelt love for yourself and others!
Good luck, prosperity, happiness to all!
